Removing Labels from Jars With No Residue

Some jars can be soaked in water and the label comes right off, but most these days can't and if you just pull the label off it will leave behind an awful tacky gum that's nearly impossible to remove. Here's a trick that works on most such jars, to remove a tacky label leaving no residue behind whatsoever, which requires about a minute of your time, no consumable materials, and just a bit of patience for the result:

Simply carefully and slowly peel back the first few millimeters of the label, hang the jar by it, and walk away. Leave something soft under it to catch it when it falls, and an hour or few later you'll come back to a clean, label-free jar. (Most glues prefer the label to the glass and given time will preferentially detach from the glass.)
