Empty Glass

It's funny, it took a certain amount of conscious override of expectations for me to bother with the livejournal administrivia. You see, at the moment I can't imagine ever having anything interesting to say again, so it's hard to justify renovating my forum for saying it.

But I don't mean that in a negative way at all--quite to the contrary, I hope it is true. In what may be the ultimate case of the glass is half empty, I hope mine is full enough now that I don't need to discover and articulate any more voids. Or, at least, I like the idea that my meta understanding of the universe is sufficient to account for all to come, that I won't have to look back and go "shit -- look what I've been blind to my whole life until now!".

And at the same time, I hate that idea.

If I weren't an atheist, I'd add a new comeback to my repertoire:

"But if God is all-powerful and all-knowing, then why can't he [...]???"

"Because after he made the universe, he poked his own eyes out and took up heavy drinking to keep things interesting."

But of course the glass is infinitely large, and there will always be ways to fill it a little fuller, and on our better days we can see it as ever filling rather than always effectively empty.

Too bad I don't have more better days. Heh heh.

My dental hygienist, who like all dental hygienists talks way too much, asked me the half-empty/half-full question the other day.

I told her: my half's full.
