Weighing Medicine



Sadly illustrative of current medical science/culture/thinking:

Most drugs are prescribed and dispensed without regard to a patient's weight, and when challenged, most doctors stand firmly behind that status quo with various rationalizations. (Because... this is what they're told, and if modern medicine is anything it's a unified front.)

So the other day I happened upon an article that offhandedly mentioned that one of these drugs is prescribed with a different one-size-fits-all dose in Japan because people weigh less in Japan on average and adverse effects from overdosing are a concern.

Just... let that sink in.
