Waterflow in the Abysmal Gardens

I've finally come to the conclusion that I'm under-watering my garden, but not for lack of trying. To give a typical example, yesterday I sat there soaking it with a hefty shower for nearly half an hour--until water started pooling out the bottom of the boxes and I thought now for sure it was soaked through. But when I pulled up a bolted lettuce, this is what I found (Gah!):

Even the Okra have gone to seed while just a foot tall. At least they have pretty flowers (did you know it's related to cotton of all things?):

In the meanwhile, my productivity has gone to shit. I'm not sure what happened, but suddenly I have no idea what I'm trying to do or why. Clearly my stars are out of alignment. Or maybe I'm suffering a bout of sanity.
