Work of Art
I moseyed down to Paia for dinner, sat alone at the
window table of the crepe/Indian place (they have
a couple curries, which is as close as you get to
an Indian place on Maui). A band of dayglow neo-hippies
parked themselves outside on the trunk of their car
and placed a to-go order. One of them was a girl with
green pants, and a blue top which left her back completely
bare, framing the top half of a wrap-around blue and green
tattoo. I don't normally go for tattoos, but the ensemble
of the girl, the tattoo, and the particular shades of green
and blue made a work of art. (The girl herself reminded me
of Tara back when I first met her. It's appropriate, then,
that as I was leaving one of the band pulled out a pair
of fire poi.)
One of them backed against the window to take a picture
of the gang, and just before the shot I held up bunny ears
over her head from behind the window. The smiles turned
to roaring laughter and some of them almost fell off the
hood. FLASH It will be an amusing photo. Tattoo
girl flashed me a peace sign back (either that, or
disembodied bunny ears).
