White

The world here in the mountains is so silent. The trees and snow muffle the sound, so all you hear most of the time are your own thoughts.

Even on a ski lift, the pulley engine is out of earshot after a hundred feet, and it's a surreal float through the trees until you get to the top. What an odd place for a hairless (well, somewhat) ape: drifting through the tree tops on a bench, above the snowscape.

In Maui, there were regular rain swarms -- light drops carried all over by the turbulent breeze -- but they are matched here by swarms of snow. A beautiful sight, the light snow crystals swirled around by the wind, the rays of the sun reflecting brilliantly off the facets as they dance. If there are myths of tiny snow fairies, these are they.
